Why food allergies, autoimmune diseases, and cancer are on a steep upward climb in America

I hear these questions asked all the time: “How come all of a sudden everyone has a gluten allergy or other food allergies? How on earth can food cause cancer?” If this is a question you have ever heard or even asked yourself, I encourage you to watch the link below to a TED Talk with Robyn O’Brien.

“Robyn shares her personal story and how it inspired her current path as a “Real Food” evangelist. Grounded in a successful Wall Street career that was more interested in food as good business than good-for-you, this mother of four was shaken awake by the dangerous allergic reaction of one of her children to a “typical” breakfast. Her mission to unearth the cause revealed more about the food industry than she could stomach, and impelled her to share her findings with others. Informative and inspiring.”

Vaccine Refusal Letter

This message is too important to ignore!

Parents, you have a right to educate yourself regarding the risks and benefits vaccinating your children may have. The following link to a vaccine refusal letter is worth the read. It is also worth submitting for your child’s health records, should you decide the risks outweigh the benefits. Do not feel pressured/bullied into making a decision. Please take the time to consider what is right for the health of your child and your family.  http://www educate4theinjured.org/#!vaccine-refusal-form/cno1

Quality Control rules the day with Vitamins and Supplements

Quality Control is Critical

Ever wondered what all the hype is about regarding vitamins and supplements? Come on, is this a marketing ploy by nutriceuticals to just make money? While this can often be said of really every company known to mankind, do understand that is why they are in business– to make money. Isn’t that why you work or own a business? The bottom line is you need to make money. So you’ll market yourself or your business by whatever means possible to that end.

That said, understanding what your body needs to achieve and maintain the health and vitality you desire and deserve is the first step in determining what products to consume. The second step is deciphering the QUALITY of the products available before you purchase. Be a smart consumer, research the products you consume for their safety, manufacturing quality, 3rd party investigations regarding their claims of quality, safety and efficacy. Stop and think 3 times before you buy over the counter products. These products tend to be made with the least quality, most fillers, and unnatural materials possible — that’s why they are so affordable, or should we dare say “cheap!”  Talk to your primary care provider or nutrition specialist about what products and companies they recommend. Should they recommend something you can get off the shelf at a drug store, find another medical professional who recommends reputable products. Remember quality does not = expensive, and affordable does not always = quality.

Let’s get real here. The reality is you are a human being not a consumer. Your body is a temple. You were created in the Image of Almighty God. Your temple, the image of God, desires to be well, healthy, vibrant and can really only be fully that when you make wise choices. These choices include what you put into your temple. We all agree grabbing whatever from where ever and doing whatever whoever says is not wise, right? Well then, it’s your responsibility to ask for wisdom when it comes to your health and nutritional needs. Proverbs 2:1-3 says, “My child, listen to me and treasure my instructions. Tune your ears to wisdom, and concentrate on understanding. Cry out for insight and undertanding. Search for them as you would for lost money or hidden treasure.”

Eight years ago when I was very sick and desperate for healing in my own personal life, wisdom instructed a friend to refer me to a chiropractor to see if they could help. I went to the chiropractor then and trusted their wisdom. I am well today because I listened to Wisdom– wisdom from God and wisdom from my chiropractor’s knowledge and experience.

Chiropractors are well studied and tend to carry high quality whole-food or natural vitamins and supplements. They have gained wisdom and knowledge during their academic studies as well as in their years of experience as healthcare providers that you probably don’t have. I encourage you to utilize their wisdom and knowledge. They are a very good source for most all your nutrition needs and typically are well connected in the community with other outstanding nutrition practitioners and healthcare providers, making them a great starting point.

So while there is a massive amount of products out there and so many options to choose from that are quite overwhelming, find a healthcare provider you trust, earnestly seek wisdom and tune your ear towards understanding.

Stand Up Straight… Mom was Right All Along!

“Chiropractors know that mom was right all along when she told us to “stand up straight.” But now there’s empirical evidence to give even more weight to her command. Good posture is essential to mental as well as physical health, keeping bones and joints aligned while boosting confidence. In fact, posture has been shown to have a greater influence on a person’s feelings of power than his or her job title or position.
In a 2012 Harvard study, participants who spent a few minutes in private “power posing” performed better in high-stakes mock meetings and interviews. Slouching one’s shoulders, not surprisingly, may have the opposite effect, lowering self-esteem.”

“Posture, power and health can be defined by the spine,” by Stephanie Earls, The Colorado Gazette, November 26, 2013.  From this week’s “Foonotes for Balanced Living” from Foot Levelers.

If you want more Happiness in your life, GIVE CHEERFULLY

Did you know that giving with a cheerful heart increases the release of serotonin in your blood stream? Serotonin is a hormone comically known as the “Happiness Drug.” So, if you want more HAPPINESS in your life GIVE CHEERFULLY expecting nothing but restful sleep, decreased joint pains, decreased muscle tension, less depression, and did I happen to mention increased HAPPINESS?

How Can A Chiropractor Work On A Totally Opposite Spot And Yet The Pain Is Gone

Yesterday before treating a patient, I asked her notice in the mirror how her right shoulder was about 2″ lower than her left. She also mentioned she had been tripping on her right pant leg. She said she noticed the difference in her shoulders at home, but that her right low back was really hurting as well as her right front leg muscles. After treating her LEFT THORACIC spine (the part over her left kidney/lung area), I asked her to take another look in the mirror to see the changes. TOTALLY even shoulders and she stated she no longer had right leg or right low back pain! skeleton-balance

The reality is chiropractors consider the symptoms you are experiencing and then analyze your ENTIRE body to determine where the source of the pain or imbalance originates. You are a WHOLE being made up of many parts that ALL WORK TOGETHER. And your brain and nervous system controls every single cell of your entire body. If there is imbalance in your nervous system, there WILL BE dysfunction in the body- as minor as your chin doesn’t quite line up with your chest bone. The next time you take a look in the mirror and see imbalance in your shoulders or your head isn’t quite screwed on straight or you have pain in any joint or muscle, or you notice changes in your normal bowel and bladder function, consider how chiropractic can help restore normal function and balance to your entire body!

Sunscreen Lotion Bars: Non-toxic Homemade Sunscreen

Make your own non-toxic homemade sunscreen with this easy homemade sunscreen recipe. Popular sunscreen lotions and sunscreen products contain unhealthy ingredients which we can easily avoid by making our own.

Why a Non-toxic Homemade Sunscreen?

If you didn’t already know, commercial sunscreens can be toxic due to potential endocrine disruptors and other nasty chemicals. I am not entirely sure that exposing my skin to the sun is such a bad thing what with Vitamin D being so important. Maybe the sun doesn’t even cause skin cancer anyway.

However, I live in Texas and the sun can get pretty brutal during the summer. I recently got a nasty sunburn at an outdoor event but thanks to coconut oil it went away within a couple of days without peeling. This never would have happened when I wasn’t eating a real, nourishing diet. I used to get heat rash and heat exhausting from being out in the sun longer than a few hours. Now that I can actually tolerate the sun without getting completely wiped out, I plan to go without sunscreen this summer for my normal day to day activities. However, if I am going to be out in the sun for a prolonged period of time, with my fair skin, I need some kind of protection.

I was inspired by Robin Konie of Thank Your Body to make non-toxic homemade sunscreen after reading her eBook, Toxic Free. However, I love the tallow lotion bars (recipe from Mommypotamus’ DIY Beauty eBook) I have been making because I can easily travel with them. I decided to try my hand at a recipe for a non-toxic homemade sunscreen lotion bar using similar ratios as the tallow bars, but use shea butter and coconut oil to provide some natural SPF as recommended by Robin.

I would assume this homemade sunscreen to be about SPF 15-20 given the amount of zinc oxide added. What I love about this bar is that it is goes on easily and soaks right in without being overly greasy. It also doesn’t turn your skin or your clothes white from the zinc!

Homemade Sunscreen Ingredients

Homemade Sunscreen Directions

Combine the shea butter, coconut oil and beeswax in a glass bowl placed over a hot pot of water or use a double boiler. Heat on low until the ingredients are melted and full incorporated. Remove from heat and stir in the zinc oxide, the essential oil, and the vitamin E oil. Pour into silicone mold and place in the fridge to cool for about 30 minutes. Pop out and store in tins or an airtight container. Store at room temperature.

Homemade Sunscreen Notes

  • These homemade sunscreen lotion bars will melt in the hot sun. I plan to cut off a small piece to take with me to the pool or the beach and carry it in an airtight container. Once back indoors it will solidify again.
  • I have received questions about how to apply. You simply rub all over your body while holding in your hand. The texture is firm but emollient and it will feel like a lotion – not soap. You can rub it in further with your hands.
